Cairngorms National Park (CNP)
Walk 13 - Loch Morlich

On our visit the ranger took us along the recently upgraded All Ability path to Loch Morlich and the surrounding area. We parked our cars in the Glenmore Forest Visitor Centre car park and carefully crossed the road towards the caravan park. The path meandered through the caravan park along tarmac roads until it met up with the waymarked All Ability path which officially starts at the car park 200 yards to the north of this point. The waymarked route continues on a stable, flat track to the loch side which in summer is a hive of water sports' activity. Nevertheless, if you continue quietly along the track many water birds may be spotted. This is a lovely path through the old Caledonian Forest with Scots pine towering above you.

The track ends at the road for Cairngorm skiing and the funicular railway, which means it can be busy. You now have a choice: to return by the same path (4 miles linear); to return by road (2½-mile circuit) or to cross the road, head south for less than ¼ mile and find the other track around the forest. For just over 400 yards it is known as Allt Mhòr Forest Trail. The trail then becomes steep and challenging and takes you on a round trip of a mile, approximately, before bringing you back to the road.

The Glenmore Forest Visitor Centre is well worth a visit and houses a good display area, shop, café and accessible toilet. It now has four scooters (4 wheel) for free loan from: Badenoch & Strathspey Community Transport Co. 01479 810004. Please allow at least 24 hours notice. They are open from Monday to Friday during office hours.
