Lush Galloway |
Dumfries and Galloway is known as the forgotten Scotland and this is sad because it is really very attractive. As a wheelchair user I can understand why it could be neglected: finding an accessible B&B proved difficult. However, I can strongly recommend day visits and, although I did not allow enough time to do it justice, a return visit is high on my list. There are so many places of interest to visit, from gardens to seaside and hillside walks.
Kirroughtree has been developed for visitors. The trails are well mapped and signposted. I have only included trails 4 & 6 on my map as these are the numbers most pertinent for the route I followed. The track we took started and stopped steeply which is why I have graded it red. Apart from these two steep slopes the paths are quite flat although they are still bumpy. The views from the top are not spectacular but they are very pleasant, and there is the usual attraction of being in a mature forest.
