Great Glen Way (GGW)
Walk 2 - Clunes to Laggan

Start at Clunes where there is plenty of space to leave your car. The yellow route from Clunes is a forest track all the way. As this is a working forest, the paths are occasionally diverted, but these diversions may not always be accessible to wheels. It is well worth phoning either the Great Glen Way or the Forestry Commission to check before you set off. Be aware also that most of the section is shared with the Cycle Route, but I have never found cyclists to be anything but pleasant and helpful.

Braving the elements along Loch Lochy

Braving the elements along Loch Lochy

Although this is a long path with few natural breaks, it offers stunning views of Loch Lochy. There are mountains all around and on a good day, with high blue skies, you can experience the spectacular. When you reach the cemetery at Kilfinnan with a large mausoleum for Glengarry chiefs, the track becomes a minor road which you could continue along to Laggan where on-road parking is possible. Or if you want a challenge, continue on the Great Glen Way which goes off to the right, through a chalet park and down to Laggan Locks. The pedestrian access crossing the lock is wide enough for most scooters but has a high step which requires a small ramp or a very strong helper. From here the GGW is narrow and fairly difficult for wheelchairs until you reach the A82. This is a very busy road, but the cars are periodically stopped for canal traffic at Laggan Bridge. A mile further on, the Great Glen Water Park has a coffee shop, restaurant, toilets and chalet accommodation.

For both my visits to the GGW I was fortunate in having the GGW Ranger with me. There were a few gates along the forest tracks, but I hope that on your visit to the GGW these barriers will have been removed.
