THE BOOK

Book cover

Walking on Wheels is the result of years of careful planning and preparation. Eva McCracken drew on her own personal knowledge of paths and trails to provide a practical guide to the difficulties, sights and attractions the wheelchair or scooter user might encounter. As well as a detailed description and Fact File about 50 routes ranging from two to twelve miles from the north to the south of Scotland, each one audited by Eva, there are maps and photographs in colour of every one. Uniquely in a book of outdoor recreation the Fact File includes details on the nearest, wheelchair accessible toilet. A list of the walks is on the Walks page.

The book was published in 2006 by Cualann Press. To obtain a copy of the book, visit the Cualann Press website.

REVIEWS AND COMMENTS

'A truly liberating book!' - Anne Begg, MP for Aberdeen South.

'Everyone should be able to enjoy our glorious countryside and Eva has done a wonderful job in suggesting areas that can be visited by those unable to explore on foot.' - Roger Smith, guidebook writer and former editor of the walkers' magazine, TGO.

Read a review of the book by John Berridge, a new wheelchair user.

THE AUTHOR

A former Occupational Therapist, Eva McCracken was a keen walker before multiple sclerosis resulted in occasional and then more frequent use of a wheelchair. In 2000 she discovered the joys of exploring the outdoors using her electric wheelchair and electric scooter. Eva began rambling in the Scottish countryside on her wheels and she kept the information on accessible trails which formed the basis of the book.
